Ash Fusion Tester

Introduction

The Ash Fusibility determination, using Ash Fusion Tester, is an empirical test designed to simulate as closely as possible the ‘melting behaviour’ of coal ash when it is heating in contact with either a mildly reducing or an oxidizing atmosphere.
Study of Coal Ash analysis is used to assess erosion, slagging, and fouling potentials of coal inside boilers.
This test gives information about the fusion characteristic of the ash. It gives an approximation of the temperatures at which the ash remaining after the combustion of coal will sinter, melt, and flow. The Ash Fusion temperatures are influenced by the chemical composition of the ash, and the nature of the coal’s mineral matter.
